Edge of Paradise villa offers the ultimate seclusion within nature's hideaway. Lush island flora embrace this gated, 4-bedroom private waterfront estate, set just above a perfect little beach on Magens Bay, on the northern shore of St. Thomas. Add to this the live reefs just beyond the beach, where you will be calmly observed by ocean denizens going about their tranquil day. You'll also marvel at the closeness of world-famous Magens Bay Beach (named one of the world's 10 most beautiful beaches by National Geographic magazine), which is not only within your sights, but a quick kayak paddle away!
As you make your way through the electronic gate, the outside world will evaporate while you take in the tropical luxury that is The Edge of Paradise. Centrally air-conditioned, the Main Villa provides the cool elegance of the villa's Great Room, which includes a multitude of large windows to let in views of the endless skies and beautiful waters surrounding you. The adjacent dining area features a sturdy farmhouse table that seats up to 12 persons. Granite counters and quality stainless steel appliances adorn the spacious gourmet kitchen, where you find everything you'll need to prepare delicious, satisfying meals. The laundry room is also conveniently located on this floor. Just outside is a patio with trellised pergola and an outdoor kitchen with a coral stone table and a built-in pizza oven of native stone.
Running the length of the upper level is the Master king, which has a sitting area and sleep sofa/futon, and full bath ensuite with double vanity and a sit down makeup area. Also on this level, is a guest bedroom with 3 twin/single beds with attached private bath - perfect for a nanny with children, older teens or close friends. Two of these beds may be converted into a king bed with advance notice. Both Upper Level bedrooms provide thrilling ocean views; the second bedroom has a balcony and door that opens into a graceful courtyard for quiet contemplation, reading, or conversation. On the ground floor level two stories down, is a large king bedroom with an additional twin bed, and its own bathroom adjacent. This bedroom is the closest to the ocean out of all of the four; its serene porch offers the perfect space to take in the crystalline blue waters, green hillsides and blue skies. All three stories are accessed from the interior of the villa, via custom-crafted Mahogany staircases. Due to the proximity to the ocean and its generous breezes, many visitors to The Edge of Paradise choose to forego the A/C in favor of opening the screened windows, allowing the island breezes to set the proper temperature!
The pool deck expanse is edged with island stoneworks and in the midst, is the deluxe infinity pool, which may be heated for an additional charge depending on temperature (payable in advance). Just beyond the pool is a quaint and cozy oceanside cottage with a queen sleigh bed. This unit is not air-conditioned, but the temperate climate and north side location keep things comfy for most! The attached bathroom boasts a shower made of native fieldstone.
Edge of Paradise is designed and managed with the ecology in mind. The villa uses energy-efficient appliances, biodegradable soaps and as many "green" products as possible. A rooftop solar water heater gently raises the pool temperature; the spouting and gutter system directs rainwater into cisterns to be filtered and made useable for bathing, cooking and drinking. Additionally, the building was designed to best capture the trade winds and all windows are screened.
Situated above the waters of Magens Bay with a live reef and beach that are easily accessed via a stairway, this villa is "on the way" to the shore, so it's an off-road extravaganza through the northern rain forest with its winding roads and hills. A 4-wheel drive vehicle with adequate clearance is required to access Edge of Paradise.
The most luscious treasure is just below the villa, accessed by a wooden deck, and stairs and stone steps - over 500 feet of shoreline with a vibrant coral reef for snorkeling and exploring, and a lovely beach with a quick jaunt over the rocks. Situated on the western side of Magens Bay (a natural preserve, donated to the people of the U.S. Virgin Islands by the late financier Arthur S. Fairchild), this beach is part of the splendor of the "North Side" that captivates residents and visitors alike. As you make your way to Magens Bay Beach in a kayak, you may spy sea turtles, or tarpon and other fishes below; or, pelicans diving for ocean's bounty from above. The enveloping arms of Tropaco point and Peterborg Peninsula shelter all of Magens Bay, creating a gentle environment for children, as well as those who enjoy swimming and snorkeling. Edge of Paradise is actually the closest villa to Magens Bay Beach on the west side of the Bay!
